Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait had a heated debate with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sambit Patra in a TV news debate on Friday. The atmosphere was so heated that he was adamant even to remove Patra from the debate. Actually, the whole matter started after Tikait’s statement regarding Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.
It happened that on the Hindi channel Aaj Tak, the anchor was Chitra Tripathi. Patra was also present in the panel during this time. Tikait was saying while keeping his point, “If the violence on January 26 is properly investigated, then the BJP people will be found behind this conspiracy. Whether there is a clash of forces or the death of the farmers…they don’t care. Just badmouth the farmer. By killing Mahatma Gandhi and then getting the murderer’s temple built and then worshiping him… you see what kind of party this is.”
Patra interrupted in the meantime, “It does not mean that anything should be said. We are being called assassins of Gandhi? You will abuse and we will keep listening?” However, during this time Tikait also shouted and said – who is this, who is interrupting in the middle? Take it off… I don’t want to talk to him. They will glorify the killers of Gandhi. For a long time, the BKU leader was adamant on removing Patra from the debate and only talking to the anchor.
By the way, after a while, when the heated issue in the debate calmed down, Patra got a chance to speak. He said- when you showed us in the frame, he called our party Gandhi’s killer and arrogant. Asking me to be removed, even called arrogant and termed absurd. You(anchor) called us, but who are we? Neither you people, nor Donald Trump (former US President) and Joe Biden (US President) cannot even say this nonsense.
