A video of BJP MP and Union Minister Smriti Irani is becoming increasingly viral on social media. In the video going viral, Smriti Irani is seen claiming that Rahul Gandhi, who started the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ from Kanyakumari, did not visit the Swami Vivekananda Memorial present there but later it was found that his claim was false. On this statement of Irani, Congress leaders targeted Irani by sharing a video of Rahul Gandhi visiting Vivekananda Memorial.
Smriti Irani, while accusing Rahul Gandhi of sedition at the Jan Spandan program in Bengaluru on Saturday, September 11, said, “I want to ask the Congress party today. You claim you are marching to unite India? Arrey, if you started out from Kanyakumari, you should at least not have been so shameless, you should at least have done pranam to Swami Vivekanandaji. But that’s not acceptable to Rahul Gandhi…”
Describing Smriti Irani’s statement as propaganda, Congress leader Srinivas BV said that it is false, Along with this post, the Congress leader has also shared a video of Rahul Gandhi saluting Swami Vivekananda. In the video, Rahul Gandhi is seen bowing to the statue of Swami Vivekananda. Srinivas said in his tweet, “Chal Jhoothi, Aren’t you ashamed to lie so ‘silly’?”
After her claim was fact-checked, Smriti Irani is getting trolled fiercely on social media. Many Congress leaders have targeted Smriti for her false statement. Congress party’s communication department in-charge Jairam Ramesh took a dig at Smriti Irani and said, “Where was Rahul Gandhi ji at 3 pm on September 7? We have shown it. In whose memorial was Rahul Gandhi? If Smriti Irani wants new glasses, I am ready to give them.”
“The BJP is running a lie factory. They are spreading falsehood about the Yatra. They are rattled by the massive response of the people. From some ministers, we expect nothing but lies. We saw another example,” Ramesh said.
Jairam Ramesh said, “She(Smriti Irani) is badly trapped in the scam. All the facts have come out. No one has the habit of speaking the truth like our Prime Minister. The Prime Minister’s illness has also spread to the cabinet colleagues.”
