Khan, 69, was not present in the lower house at the time of voting and MPs from his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also staged a walkout. However, rebel members of PTI remained present in the House. The removal of Khan paved the way for the process of electing the new Leader of the House.
After the announcement of the trust vote, Shehbaz Sharif said that his government would not indulge in the politics of vendetta. He said, “We thank everyone for their sacrifices. When the time comes, we will talk in detail. I don’t want to go back to the bitterness of the past. We have to forget this and move on. We will not do any retaliation or injustice. We will not send anyone to jail without any reason.”
