‘What is going on?’: Tennis Legend Martina Navratilova on Hindutva leaders calling for violence against Indian Muslims

Martina Navratilova on Hindutva leaders: Videos of a “Dharma Sansad” or religious assembly in Haridwar in Uttarakhand, in which speakers preach violence against Muslims and pledge to fight for a Hindu nation, have triggered outrage and condemnation, with former military chiefs, activists and others demanding action.

This open genocidal threat to minorities(Muslims) of India by Hindu Yuva Vahini has provoked a response from tennis legend Martina Navratilova.

On December 22, this legendary Tennis player Martina Navratilova retweeted a tweet by CJ Werleman, which is from a program of Hindu Yuva Vahini. On this anti-Muslim event, Martina Navratilova questions what is going on?

Earlier this year in October, Martina Navratilova posted a news report which quoted India’s Home Minister Amit Shah saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not a dictator but the most democratic leader India has ever seen. She posted a shot of the newspaper report and commented above it: And Now For My Next Joke ….followed by emojis.

It is worth noting that Martina is not only critical of Narendra Modi, but also of former US President Donald Trump. Martina has also made many tweets against Trump.

Whenever international celebrities like Martina Navratilova or Rihanna or teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg make adverse comments about the happenings in India, it makes the ministers in India and their supporters uncomfortable. These international celebrities have a wide following and their comments and tweets influence the minds of many people.

Most of the Indian players have avoided making any remarks against the government. If they make political comments, they are always united to show their support for the government. One can recall an incident from a few months back, when singer Rihanna tweeted in favor of protesting farmers and the government expressed displeasure over it. Soon after, several sports personalities asked foreigners to refrain from commenting on India. But Martina is doing such tweets with impunity.

Let us tell you that Yati Narsinghanand, Hindutva flag bearer, and hate-monger organised a three-day conclave in Hardiwar in Uttarakhand that witnessed calls by Hindutva leaders to attack minorities, particularly Muslims, and their religious spaces.

Videos from the three-day ‘Dharma Sansad’ organised on December 17-19 have now surfaced on social media, where various personalities spite hate openly against religious minorities with the slogan ‘shastra mev jayte’.
