The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced the list of candidates for the panchayat elections in five more districts on Thursday. The list also includes the name of Sangeeta Sengar, wife of former BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar, convicted of rape.
According to the report of Indian Express, Sangeeta, the outgoing district panchayat president from Unnao, has been given a ticket for the district panchayat member from Fatehpur Chaurasi III seat.
In Unnao, the names of 51 candidates for different Zilla Panchayat wards were released.
Sangeeta Sengar became the District Panchayat President from Unnao district in 2016. At that time, panchayat elections were not fought on the symbol of the political party, but this time political parties including BJP decided to officially announce the names of their candidates so that there is no confusion or doubt in the support at the ground level.
Let us know that the names of candidates are being announced daily from select districts. On Thursday, the names of candidates were announced from Unnao, Mau, Balrampur, Basti and Kushinagar.
Sangeeta Sengar campaigned for BJP candidate Shrikant Katiyar during the by-elections in Bangarmau assembly constituency and this time senior party leaders will campaign for him and other candidates.
As a BJP candidate, Kuldeep Sengar won the assembly election from the Bangarmau assembly seat of Unnao in 2017. However, this seat was vacated after he was convicted in the rape case.
Kuldeep Sengar was also expelled from the party after this.
The victim was raped on June 4, 2017 by former BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar. At that time the victim’s age was 17 years. Sengar, a four-time BJP MLA from Bangarmau in Uttar Pradesh, was expelled from the party in August 2019 when the victim and her family fell victim to a road accident.
Let us tell you that a charge sheet was filed for conspiring for Kuldeep Sengar to rape a minor and to implicate the victim’s father in a wrong case.
It is known that the victim’s father was allegedly beaten up and a case of illegal possession of arms was registered. He died on 29 April 2018 during judicial custody. In this charge, the court had framed charges against Sengar and 10 others.
A charge sheet was filed against Sengar’s brother and others for the murder of the victim’s father.
Kuldeep Singh Sengar and six others were sentenced to ten years in prison by a Delhi court in connection with the murder of the father of the Unnao rape victim.
These six others also include Sengar’s brother and two policemen. Kuldeep Sengar and his brother Jaideep Sengar were also fined Rs 10 lakh each.
