Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann tied the knot with Dr Gurpreet Kaur on Thursday, 7 July in a private ceremony at their home in Chandigarh. On CM Bhagwant Mann’s special day, several AAP leaders including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha attended the wedding ceremony in Chandigarh. Kejriwal along with his family attended the wedding ceremony.
Mann, 48, on Thursday married a 32-year-old doctor, Gurpreet Kaur, whom he has known through family ties for a few years. Sources told ANI that Mann’s mother wanted him to get married. Notably, Gurpreet, who hails from Pehowa in Kurukshetra, Haryana, is a practicing doctor and is currently residing in Mohali, Punjab with her family.
Significantly, this is the second marriage of Bhagwant Mann. Mann and his ex-wife got divorced about 6 years back in 2015. His first wife Inderjit Kaur and their two children live in the United States. Both the children had attended his swearing-in ceremony when he was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Punjab in March.
The early education of Dr. Gurpreet took place in Pehowa. She passed 10th class from Tagore Public School. At the same time, after passing class XII from Chandigarh, she joined Mulana Medical College, Ambala and completed MBBS in the year 2017. After this, she also worked for a few days in the same hospital in Ambala.
Dr. Gurpreet Kaur’s native village is near Gumthala Gadhu farm. Her father Inderjit Singh has also been a sarpanch and he has about 42 acres of land in village Gumthala Gadhu. Her father also holds Canadian citizenship. Dr. Gurpreet’s mother Rajinder Kaur aka Raj is a housewife. Her family has been living in Mohali for six months. At present there is no one at the house in Pehowa.
Dr. Gurpreet Kaur has two elder sisters. Her eldest sister Navneet Kaur Neeru lives in America. While the other sister Karmjit Kaur Gaggu is settled in Australia with her family. Neeru had come to Pehowa from America 20 days ago for the wedding of her younger sister. Currently, the family is preparing for the wedding at their house in Mohali.
The information about Dr. Gurpreet Kaur’s marriage to the CM was received by her relatives from social media. Relatives say that they had no information about this, they got this information from social media and TV channels. Gurpreet’s father is very happy about the marriage of his daughter.
Dr. Gurpreet Kaur’s family itself also has political influence. Her maternal uncle Jaswant Singh is a Congressman. At the same time, her brother-in-law, Advocate Aman Cheema, is also a Congress leader. Her father’s cousin Advocate Gurinder Singh is an Aam Aadmi Party worker. He left the Congress and joined AAP even before the municipal elections. Dr. Gurpreet Kaur’s father has also been the former Sarpanch of the village.
