A 35-year-old man was beaten badly on the road by two police constables on Tuesday in the Pardeshipura area in Madhya Pradesh after a dispute over allegedly not wearing mask to protect him from the corona virus. Both police personnel have been suspended after the video of the incident went viral.
In the video, two policemen are seen beating a person mercilessly, while his teenage son and some women are seen begging for mercy from the policemen. Superintendent of Police (Eastern Region) Ashutosh Bagri said that the two constables appearing in the video have been suspended due to improper treatment and a City Superintendent of Police (CSP) has been entrusted with the investigation of the case.
Bagree claimed that the person appearing in the video was not wearing a mask and the two policemen stopped him, so he grabbed his collar and abused him and tried to assault him.
He said, “The video of the incident which is going viral on social media, has been cropped so that the image of the police can be tarnished.” Another police official said that the person who allegedly had a dispute with the policemen has been identified as Krishnakant Keyer (35). According to the police officer, Keyer is addicted to smack and cases of knifeing and extortion are also registered against him.
Madhya Pradesh Congress targeted BJP
Meanwhile, on the social media, quoting the viral video, people are strongly criticizing the attitude of the police. Many opposition Congress leaders have also targeted the BJP government of the state in this matter.
