Thomas Cup 2022: The Indian men’s badminton team has created history in the Thomas Cup 2022. India has reached the final of the tournament for the first time in its 73 years of history. HS Prannoy took India to the final by winning the deciding match. India defeated Denmark 3-2 in the semi-final match. HS Prannoy defeated Rasmus Gemeke 13-21, 21-9, 21-12 to help India reach the final.

With this, India has ensured a silver medal for itself in the tournament. Prannoy made a spectacular comeback in the match to lose 13-21 in the first game and won the second game 21-9. Keeping his momentum intact, the Indian player beat his opponent 21-12 in the third and deciding game.

World no.11 Kidambi Srikanth defeated Denmark’s world no.3 Anders Antonsen 21-18, 12-21, 21-15 in the 3rd match of the Thomas Cup 2022 semi-final to give India a 2-1 lead. Earlier, Satwiksairaj Reddy and Chirag Shetty won crucial doubles matches in 3 sets against the Danish pair of Astrup and Christiansen. However, Lakshya Sen lost 13-21, 13-21 to world number one Viktor Axelsen of Denmark.

In the fourth match of the semi-final, the Danish pair defeated the Indian pair of Vishnuvardhan Panjala and Krishna Garga 21-14, 21-13 to level both the teams 2-2.

India continued their quarter-final winning streak on Thursday. They won two singles matches to overtake the bronze medalist Denmark of the previous edition. On Thursday, India secured their first medal since 1979 by reaching the semi-finals. The Indian team reached the last 4 after defeating Malaysia 3-2. On Friday, India’s players went a step ahead and ensured at least a silver medal.
