Thailand Open 2022: PV Sindhu crosses over the hurdle of world no.1 Akane Yamaguchi to reach semi-final

Thailand Open 2022: India’s top female shuttler PV Sindhu has reached the semi-finals of the Thailand Open Super 500. Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, continued her stellar form by thrashing world number one Akane Yamaguchi in the quarterfinals.

Sindhu, seeded sixth, showed a great game from the start against the defending world champions and won the first set 21-15. However, the Japanese made a comeback in the second set to register a 22-20 win. But in the final and deciding match, Sindhu came back strongly and won the set 21-13 to win the match.

Sindhu will next take on third seed and world ranking fourth-ranked Chen Yu Fei of China on Saturday. Sindhu is the only player to reach the semi-finals.

Sindhu had earlier beaten Korea’s Sim Yoo Jin in 37 minutes in a pre-quarterfinal match. At the same time, Kidambi Srikanth, who played a key role in India’s victory in the Thomas Cup, withdrew from the tournament at the last minute. He gave a walk over to Nhat Nguyen of Ireland in the second round.
