Tata Motors has finally taken the wraps off the all new micro SUV TATA Punch for the Indian market and the company has also announced the launch date of the new car. Tata is going to launch a new mini SUV in the country on 20 October 2021, which will compete with Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and Renault Kwid. The price of the new punch will be similar to that of the company’s premium hatchback Altroz and interested customers can book the punch online or by visiting the dealership for a token amount of Rs 21,000.
This is Tata’s first SUV to be built on the Alpha-Arc platform and is based on the brand’s Impact 2.0 design language. The prices of the car will likely be revealed during the festive season and will be below the Tata Nexon instead of punch in the Tata SUV line-up. The new punch looks a little different than the HBX concept that was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020 and in fact it looks like the Baby Safari, its attractive front and Tata’s signature split lighting design is a testament to this.
Talking about the look, Tata Motors has given a three-arrow pattern black grille with a new punch, around which LED daytime running lamps have been installed, while the projector headlamps have been installed on the bumper in its lower part. You will see strong cladding all around the car which gives it an SUV-like look and Tata says that the new punch will be different from the oversized hatchback, which has been given many SUV features. The dual-coloured alloy wheels and roofrails make it look even better, while the two-colour body color makes it even more attractive. The rear of the car is also good looking and the punch with the sculpted tailgate enhances the overall look. The cladding is also visible on the rear bumper and square LED taillights have been found here.
Coming to the cabin, the Tata Punch gets a dual-colour black and off-white finish which looks quite modern and organized. The dashboard of the car is frilly and neat and the blue color along with the transverse AC vents give a funky look. The instrument cluster with Altroz has been seen here. AC vents have been found for the rear passengers, but here the armrest is missing in the front.
The new Tata Punch gets the 1.2-litre Revetron petrol engine
The new punch gets a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and Harmon audio system and supports Android Auto with Apple CarPlay. The top model gets Tata’s IRA connected car technology and gets a part digital part analog instrument cluster. The car has got a first in the segment flat bottom steering wheel, apart from this many features like engine start-stop button, automatic climate control and power windows at the front have got punch.
The new Tata Punch is mated to a 1.2-litre Revetron petrol engine that is also offered in the Altroz premium hatchback. This petrol engine makes 85 bhp power and 113 Nm of peak torque and the company has mated it to a 5-speed manual as usual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox as an option. In terms of safety too, the car comes with ISOFIX child seat mount, ABS with EBD and industry-first brake sway control.
Looking at the features, the Tata Punch comes with a number of first-in-segment features including traction modes – sand, rock, mud, hill descent control and hill start assist, which help the car ride on hilly and uphill terrains. It becomes very easy to drive. The ground clearance of the car is 185 mm and 16-inch alloy wheels have been given with it.
