Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Tuesday urged Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu to withdraw Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut’s Padma Shri award in view of her remarks on India’s independence.
In an official letter written by Sanjay Singh to the Vice President, it was said that such statements are being made to humiliate the freedom fighters, the martyrdom of lakhs of people and the years of struggle are being sidelined. Every Indian story who fought for freedom has been infused with patriotism across generations. Here a woman holding Padma Shri with a crooked mindset is choosing to make such anti-national statements in the greed of the post, it is an insult to every Indian.
The AAP MP further wrote, her Padma Shri award should be withdrawn so that at least the dignity of this honor can be saved. No one should have the right to hurt the sentiments of the countrymen with such comments. Therefore it is requested that the proceedings of the other business house under Rule 267 should be adjourned and serious discussion should take place regarding the freedom struggle of the nation.
Let us inform that in the month of November, actress Kangana said during a TV program that India’s independence was alms. Kangana had claimed that the country got real independence after 2014 when the BJP government led by Prime Minister Modi came to power.
Not only this, Kangana wrote in her Instagram story that the freedom fighters were handed over to the British who were not courageous to fight repression but were power hungry and cunning. Apart from this, she also took a jibe at the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and wrote, “Those are the ones who taught us, “If someone slaps you offer another cheek for one more slap” and that is how you will get Aazadi. That’s not how one gets Aazadi, one can only get bheekh like that. Choose your heros wisely.”
