Punjab Municipal Election 2021: Congress Sweeps Punjab municipal corporation polls, BJP, SAD take massive hit amid farmers’ stir

In the wake of the ongoing peasant movement in the country, the Congress party has won a landslide victory in the Punjab municipal corporation polls (Civic Polls). Out of a total of 8 municipal corporations, Congress has captured 7. The Bharatiya Janata Party faced the anger of the farmers over the agricultural laws. BJP could not even open its account. The election results for the main opposition party Shiromani Akali Dal are extremely disappointing.

At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party, which is contesting the civic elections for the first time, completely failed to leave its mark. In the last civic elections held in 2015, Congress stood at number three. The Shiromani Akali Dal won 813 seats and the BJP 348 seats. The alliance of the two parties won 1161 seats.

Elections were held on February 14 in Punjab on 8 municipal corporations and 107 municipal councils. The results were fully dominated by the Congress on Wednesday. Congress has won in Bathinda, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Abohar, Batala and Pathankot Municipal Corporation. The results of the Moga Municipal Corporation are being talked about till late night. However, till now the Congress has emerged as the largest party. At the same time, the eighth municipal corporation Mohali’s result will come out on February 19.

On the other hand, when it comes to the municipality and the city council, the results of 80 seats have been revealed so far. Of these, the Congress has captured 65. The Shiromani Akali Dal has got only 5 seats while the others have got 10 seats. The candidates of BJP and Aam Aadmi Party have longed for victory. The account of both the parties is not even open. The remaining 27 seats will have results by late evening. Encouraged by the victory, Congress leaders and activists are celebrating the entire state with drums, while BJP, Akali Dal and Aam Aadmi Party’s camp is in disarray. Activists are also seen celebrating Holi with Rang-Gulal.

It is worth noting that after two years, Punjab Assembly elections are to be held in the year 2022. At the same time, the people have completely rejected the anti-people work of the opposition parties BJP, Akali Dal and Aam Aadmi Party. No party has ever had such results before.

On the other hand, Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur, who suffered a severe defeat in the civic elections, has blamed the officers for it. They say that Akali candidates have won despite booth capturing, harassment and violence. The officials have hampered the Akali victory. The victory won after so much struggle indicates that the Akali government is going to be formed in the year 2022. Therefore, the officers involved in these activities should start their countdown.

Congress mayor for first time in 53 years in Bathinda, Akalis stronghold
The good news for the Congress is that it has won the Bathinda Municipal Corporation for the first time in 53 years. For the first time, there will be a Congress Mayor. The Akali Dal candidate has to face a crushing defeat here. It is worth mentioning that Badal is the ancestral village of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in Bathinda. This area was considered to be the stronghold of the Akali Dal, but this time the Congress has turned the hopes on.
