Priest raped a 25-year-old Dalit woman in Ajmer, made a video, held captive for days

A 25-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly gang-raped by a priest and others in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district. The police gave this information on Sunday. Officials said that accused Sanjay Sharma is the family priest of the victim and has performed many religious rituals on behalf of her family. “The accused allegedly raped the victim after finding her alone in the house and made a video of the incident,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Ajmer (North) Chhavi Sharma said quoting the complaint filed by the victim.

According to the complaint made by the victim woman to the police, the accused extorted money from her and then allegedly gang-raped her along with others. According to DSP Chhavi Sharma, the accused had allegedly fed the victim with intoxicants, due to which she is unable to tell the exact number of people involved in the incident. The victim has said in her complaint that the accused priest had kept her hostage and was raped several times in the last one month.

The victim has alleged that the accused priest had threatened to kill her husband and children and make public the video of the rape if she protested. Police said that the victim has said in her complaint that she was kept hostage and given narcotic injections.

The victim has told that when she did not return home, her husband lodged a missing complaint, after which the accused dropped her outside a police station on September 27. According to the police, an FIR was registered on October 7 based on the complaint and the search for the accused is on.

The victim has said in her complaint that she had informed the Ajmer Civil Line Police Station in this regard, but no action was taken. When she seemed upset at home after this incident, the family inquired. She told everything to the family. The family members took the woman to the Civil Lines police station and lodged an FIR.

The police have registered a case against the main accused priest and other accused under gangrape and other sections. Ajmer North Deputy Superintendent of Police Chhavi Sharma said that after getting the victim medically examined, her statements have been recorded. The police is investigating the matter.
