Actor Prakash Raj is not only famous for his films but also for his ‘Hashtag Just Asking’ series. In fact, the actor keeps expressing his views on political issues ranging from Bollywood under the ‘Hashtag Just Asking’ campaign. This time also he did something similar. On one hand, former JNU student Umar Khalid is trying to get bail from the High Court. On the other hand, Prakash Raj has shared a post on his social media calling him ‘Supreme Hero of his time’.
Prakash Raj, while re-sharing the video of his social media account Umar Khalid, wrote, “SUPREME HERO of our times.. I’m proud to have known him..” Let us inform that the actor has used the hashtags ‘Free Umar Khalid’, ‘Free All Political Prisoners’ and ‘Just Asking’ with his caption.
In the video shared by Prakash Raj, Umar Khalid is seen meeting his nephew. The user, who shared this video of Umar Khalid, supported the former JNU student and wrote, “What are we going to tell this kid about why his Mamu is being imprisoned? That his Mamu is a good person who fights for the powerless? That he could have gone to the US for a better life but chose to stay because he couldn’t leave the less fortunate behind?”
Why is Umar Khalid in jail?
Khalid was questioned by the High Court on February 21, 2020 in the matter of using objectionable words against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech in Amravati. Following which Khalid was arrested on September 13, 2020 and has been in custody since then. Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, and several others have been booked under provisions of the anti-terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Indian Penal Code for allegedly being the masterminds of the February 2020 riots.
Apart from this, Umar Khalid is accused of inciting violence which led to riots in Delhi after the protest against CAA, NRC. The chargesheet against Khalid mentions the use of weapons and the manner of attack during the violence, which points to the act of terrorism. The document states that the protest’s attempt was to disrupt the ‘unity and integrity of India’.
