The Congress on Wednesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks on the film ‘Kashmir Files’ and claimed Rajiv Gandhi was the only leader who raised his voice when Kashmiri Pandits were migrating from the Kashmir Valley. While BJP leaders LK Advani and Narendra Modi, who were supporting the then VP Singh government, were busy taking out the ‘Rath Yatra’.
Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala while addressing press conference told reporters, “Remember, when Kashmiri Pandits were being oppressed and fleeing under the BJP-backed government, Rajiv Gandhi gheraoed the Parliament, raised their voices. But the BJP gave tacit support to this tragedy, taking out ‘Rath Yatra’ for political gains. They were like that then and are still like that.”
Blaming Governor Jagmohan for the exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits, the Congress asked “What were the 85 BJP MPs doing then, with whose support the VP Singh government was running at the Centre? Instead of giving security to the CM, why did the Governor instigate the Pandits to flee?”
Surjewala said, “In 8 years, what did the Modi government do for the rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits? Things got worse again in Kashmir, violence escalated and thousands of Kashmiris had to flee. When Kashmiris could not do anything for the Pandits, they started showing the film? How long until the harvest of profit from the cultivation of hatred?
The Congress spokesperson asked, “Modi Ji, when will the rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits take place? Specify the deadline. The government should tell how many people were resettled back in Kashmir?”
