Netizens hit out at Smriti Irani: Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani recently shared a post on her Instagram account, which shows the mutual affection and discipline between her and her mother. She wrote, “When I was a kid, they didn’t take me to a psychologist… My mom was able to open my chakra, stabilize my karma and clean my aura with one single slap.”

Smriti Irani had asked the viewers to comment on if they could relate to this, in the caption of her post she wrote, “My ma gleefully shared this with me … aur kis kis ki mataji ne aise aura clean ki hai kripaya haath uthayein (Please raise your hand if you have had your aura cleaned like this by your mother).”

While some people have liked this post of her. Some hit out at Smriti Irani for endorsing and normalising child abuse being the Union Minister for Women and Child Development. Others fumed at her for ridiculing seeking professional help for mental health issues, by comparing professional therapy to slap-style parenting.

Irani has since deleted this post. Netizens took to comments condemning her slam on psychologists. A user wrote, “Yeah so I need medical attention now as an adult. Didn’t realize that boomer humor went from domestic abuse jokes to child abuse, but oh well, you just want to treat your kids with the same trauma you’ve been traumatized.”
