“Must Let India’s Leaders Know World Is Watching”: Oscar-winning actor, Susan Sarandon, is latest Hollywood name to support Indian farmers

Hollywood star and Oscar winner actress Susan Sarandon has come out in support of farmers who are protesting against the Centre’s agricultural laws after pop singer Rihanna. She announced her support for the farmers by sharing a news release from the New York Times on Twitter.

In fact, Oscar-winning American actress Susan Sarandon recently made a tweet in support of the farmers’ movement, which has come to the headlines. People are liking and retweeting this tweet.

She wrote that I stand in support of the ongoing farmers movement in India. At least try to know who they are and why they are agitating.

Susan Sarandon reiterates her support for farmers

Sarandon took to Twitter late Saturday evening and shared a news report by Al Jazeera, headlined, “Free speech under threat as India clamps down on farmer protests.” “Corporate greed and exploitation knows no bounds, not only in the US but worldwide. While they work w/ corp. media and politicians to silence the most vulnerable, we must let India’s leaders know the world is watching and we #StandWithFarmers! #FarmersProtests,” she captioned the post. 

Significantly, Susan Sarandon is a 75-year-old American actress, activist and executive producer. She has been awarded many awards besides Oscars. She was honored with a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002 for her significant contribution to the film industry. She also received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Stockholm International Film Festival in 2009. Let us tell you that she was also invited for the inauguration at the 44th International Film Festival in India in 2013.

Following the tweet by Rihanna, Mia and Greta, the ongoing peasant movement in India has become a topic of discussion worldwide. Many international celebs have also tweeted in support of farmers. Since then, the matter has caught on. Even the Ministry of External Affairs has issued a statement that it is not right for the outsiders to react to it without knowing the case well. After this, Bollywood stars also tweeted and said that this is a matter of our country and to work together in this difficult time.
