Munawwar Farooqui, comedian from Gujarat, beaten up and arrested after BJP MLA’s son alleges insult to Hindu deities, Home Minister Amit Shah

Five people, including standup comedian Munawwar Farooqui, have been arrested in Indore. News agency PTI quoted a police officer as saying that Farrukhi has been arrested for making vulgar comments on Home Minister Amit Shah and Hindu deities in a show.

According to police, the show took place in a cafe in the 56 shop area. The police have registered a case on the complaint of Eklavya Singh Gaur, son of local BJP MLA Malini Singh Gaur. Gaur told that he along with his colleagues had joined the show as an audience. These people objected to Farrukhi’s content and created an uproar over it. He also stopped the show.
Gaur is also the convenor of the local Hind Rakshak Dal. He alleged that social distancing was also not being followed during the show. According to some media reports, the comedian has also been beaten. However, the Indian Guard has objected to this.

Kamlesh Sharma, in-charge of Tukoganj police station, said, “Late Friday, a case has been registered against standup comedian Munawwar Farooqui and four people living in Indore on the complaint of Eklavya Singh Gaur.”
The four other people who have been arrested are Edwin Anthony, Prakhar Vyas, Priyam Vyas and Nalin Yadav. A case has been registered on all these including Section 295 and Section 269 of IPC.

It is alleged that the Godhra incident and Amit Shah were wrongly linked in the show.
