Migration: More than one lakh 63 thousand Indians left their citizenship and settled abroad

Indians left their citizenship: The number of people leaving Indian citizenship is increasing continuously. The situation is that in the year 2021, more than one lakh 63 thousand Indians left their citizenship here and settled abroad. This is the largest number of people leaving Indian citizenship in the last seven years.

Lok Sabha MP Haji Fazlur Rehman had asked a question in Parliament regarding this, in response to which Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said,

“In the year 2021, one lakh 63 thousand 370 people left Indian citizens. Whereas in the year 2020, 85 thousand 256 and in the year 2019, one lakh 44 thousand 17 persons left Indian citizenship.”

In this way, if we compare those who left Indian citizenship, then in the year 2021 compared to the year 2020, more than 91 percent people left the citizenship of India.

According to the data presented in Parliament by the Ministry of Home Affairs, in the year 2021, the highest number of 78 thousand 284 people left Indian citizenship and settled in America and got citizenship. The second for Indians is Australia, where in the year 2021, 23 thousand 533 Indians left their citizenship and settled.

Similarly, 21 thousand 597 people left the citizenship of India and got the citizenship of Canada. According to statistics, in 2021, a total of 14 thousand 637 people have left Indian citizenship for the United Kingdom (UK).

Similar trend is seen for other years also. In the year 2020 also, maximum 30 thousand 828 Indians and in 2019 61 thousand 683 Indians left citizenship for America.

Similarly, in the year 2020, 17 thousand 93 people left Indian citizenship for Canada, 13 thousand 518 for Australia and 6 thousand 489 for United Kingdom. In 2019, 21 thousand 340 people left Indian citizenship for Australia, 25 thousand 381 in Canada and 14 thousand 309 for United Kingdom.

How many have given up Indian citizenship till now?
According to the data presented by the government in various Parliament sessions, a total of nine lakh 32 thousand 276 Indians have given up their citizenship during the years 2015 to 2021.

According to the data presented by Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai in the Lok Sabha on 9 February 2021, one lakh 41 thousand 656 people left Indian citizenship in the year 2015.

Similarly, in 2016, one lakh 44 thousand 942, one lakh 27 thousand 905 in 2017 and one lakh 25 thousand 130 people left Indian citizenship in 2018. We have already told you above the number of people who left Indian citizenship during the year 2019 to 2021.

Regarding this, the government says that whoever is giving up Indian citizenship, he does so for personal reasons.
