TMC MP Mahua Moitra has criticized BJP MP Nishikant Dubey for allegedly obtaining a fake MBA degree and a fake PhD. Moitra has questioned Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla about whether this could lead to Dubey’s removal from Lok Sabha membership.
Taking to Twitter, the Trinamool MP statef, “Oh just btw isn’t lying on affidavit & faking an MBA degree from DU’s FMS & then getting a dodgy PhD also grounds for termination of Lok Sabha membership?
Privilege committee, are you listening @ombirlakota?” Mahua Moitra also tagged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in her tweet.
TMC MP’s remark was made in response to a demand by Dubey to revoke Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership during the Parliamentary PAN session. Dubey made this demand while discussing the Adani-Hyndenburg case in the budget speech, citing Rahul’s comments about PM Modi. Dubey dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s allegations before the Privilege Committee and stated that despite the speech being taken down, it is still available on public platforms.
A PIL was filed against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey in 2020 at the Jharkhand High Court. The MP was accused of submitting fake degrees in his election nomination papers, and a request was made to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter by the CBI and the Election Commission.
According to the petition, Nishikant Dubey provided false information about his educational background during the general elections of 2009, 2014, and 2019, stating that he had completed an MBA from Delhi University’s Faculty of Management Studies. However, upon verification of documents obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, it was revealed that he neither enrolled nor passed an MBA from the said institution.
