Maharashtra Govt slashes security cover of Devendra Fadnavis, several other BJP leaders

The Uddhav Thackeray government of Maharashtra has taken a major step on Sunday. Maharashtra government has reduced the security of Devendra Fadnavis, former chief minister and leader of opposition in the state assembly. Apart from this, a bulletproof vehicle deployed under the protection of Fadnavis has also been withdrawn. On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party has strongly criticized the Maharashtra government’s move. At the same time, it has described action as politics of revenge.

In fact, the security of former Maharashtra Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis and his family, former Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has been reduced by the Uddhav Thackeray government, while BJP state unit chief Chandrakant Patil’s security has been withdrawn.

Order issued on January 8
As per the government notification issued on January 8, Fadnavis will now get ‘Y-Plus category with escort’ protection instead of ‘Z-plus’ category. At the same time, the security of former Chief Minister’s wife Amrita Fadnavis and daughter Divija has been reduced from ‘Y-Plus’ category to ‘X’ with escort.

Safety of Naik and Raj Thackeray reduced
Former Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik will now get ‘Y’ category protection instead of ‘Y-Plus’. The security of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray has been reduced from ‘Z’ category to ‘Plus’ with ‘Escort’.

BJP chief’s security back

The security of BJP leader and former Chief Minister Narayan Rane, state BJP chief Chandrakant Patil and senior party leader Sudhir Mungantiwar have been withdrawn. Rane had ‘Y-Plus’ category protection. Apart from this, the security of the state Lokayukta ML Tahiliani has been reduced from ‘Z’ category to ‘Y’ category.

BJP told revenge action
The decision of the Uddhav Thackeray government of Maharashtra has been attacked by the Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP’s chief spokesperson Keshav Upadhyay has termed the Uddhav Thackeray government’s decision as a Revenge.
