Munawar Faruqui becomes season 1 winner: The reality show ‘Lock Upp’ has got the winner of the first season. After struggling for basic needs for 70 days, Munawar Faruqui has emerged as the winner of the show. Five finalists Payal Rohatgi, Anjali Arora, Azam Falah and Shivam Sharma were also finalists in the last of Kangana Ranaut’s show. Along with the trophy, Munawar also received a cash prize of Rs 20 lakh and a new car. It was unlike other reality shows because here the winner was not chosen on the basis of votes alone. Host Kangana also gave Munawar a chance to speak for the last time.
Munawar Faruqui got the most votes and Kangana also chose him as the ultimate winner. Munawar was accompanied by the top 3 finalists Anjali Arora and Payal Rohatgi. Kangana Ranaut announced that Munawar Faruqui got more than 18 lakh votes and made it to the top 3. Kangana told on her Instagram account that the finale episode has got 10 million views.
Munawar Faruqui got entry in the show because of his controversies. He spent a month in jail for allegedly “insulting Hindu deities” during one of his shows last year. After being released on bail, many of his shows were cancelled. In a statement, Munawar later said, that he was imprisoned for a joke he had never made up.
Munawar came out of the comfort zone
Munawar also indicated that he had to do with comedy. After coming out of jail, he wrote in a tweet, “Hate won, artist lost. That’s it, bye. Injustice.” Before entering the show, Munawar had told The Indian Express in an interview that the ‘lock up’ would put him out of his comfort zone.
Munawar never wanted to be in controversies
However, when Munawar Faruqui was asked what he did to choose a show that could spark controversy, he said, “First of all, I don’t think there is anything wrong with being controversial. It only means that people haven’t heard your side of the story, or you may have been taken out of context. I never wanted to be a part of controversies. I immediately removed the part of my video that offended people. It was the public who ran it for almost a year and made it news. I never wanted to be a controversy, they made me.”
