KKR vs MI, IPL 2022: Pat Cummins’ 14 ball half-century takes Kolkata to 5-wicket win over Mumbai Indians

KKR vs MI, IPL 2022: Pat Cummins and Venkatesh Iyer played terrific knocks of 56 and 50 respectively as Kolkata Knight Riders beat Mumbai Indians by five wickets in the 14th game of IPL 2022. KKR lost wickets at regular intervals but in the end, Iyer and Cummins stitched together a fine partnership to register a comprehensive victory with 25 balls to spare.

Mumbai Indians had set up the game very well until Pat Cummins came in and smashed them out of the park in Pune. KKR needed 35 runs to win off 30 balls at the start of the 15th over and Cummins ended up finishing the game at the end of it. He equalled KL Rahul’s record for the fastest half century of all time in the IPL and ended the match unbeaten on 56 off 15 balls. Before Cummins’s blitz, MI had managed to keep KKR in check in the 162-run chase, not allowing them to have steady partnerships and remaining tight with their lines and in the field.

Cummins’ 14 ball half-century is one of the craziest knocks you will see in the Indian Premier League. The pitch might be sticky, pacey, or bouncy for others but not for Pat Cummins today. He was hitting the ball all over the park for fun. Kolkata were in the game despite losing wickets at regular intervals. Venkatesh Iyer played a superb anchoring role for his team and once, Andre Russell fell, it felt like we will have a nail-biter on our hands but Pat Cummins had other ideas. He scored fifty in no time and registered the joint fastest fifty. Absolutely incredible.

Earlier, a fine fifty from Suryakumar Yadav (52 off 36) helped Mumbai Indians post 161/4 against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Playing his first match of the season, Suryakumar played a solid knock along with Tilak Varma (38 off 27) to bring Mumbai out of trouble and helped them put a fighting total on the board.
