Kerala Tops again in Niti Aayog’s SDG India Index 2020-21, Bihar worst performer

NITI Aayog has released the third edition of Sustainable Development Goals SDG India Index & Dashboard 2020-21. According to this report, Kerala once again tops the list. At the same time, Bihar is at the bottom of this list same as last year. It simply means that Bihar’s progress report and its performance is worst among all states. This report has been prepared by assessing the economy and environment of the states and union territories. Kerala has got 75 marks in this report. Whereas Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have got 74 points each and are at number two. Talking about the worst-performing states, it is not only Bihar but also Assam and Jharkhand.

SDG India Index 2020-21

Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Vice-Chairman, NITI Aayog presented this report with the name – SDG India Index and Dashboard 2020-21: Partnership in the Decade of Action in the presence of Dr. VK Paul Member (health) NITI Aayog, NITI Aayog CEO Shri Amitabh Kant and Sanyukta Samdar who is the advisor to the SDGs. This report has been prepared after consultations with its primary stakeholders, including the States and Union Territories, United Nations agencies present in India, Union Ministers and the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation. It has been said on behalf of PIB that the figures released in this report will continue to inspire everyone to move forward.

Let us tell you that in the report of the year 2018-19, 13 goals, 39 targets, 62 indicators were included while in 2019-20 17 goals, 54 targets, and 100 indicators were made its measure. Similarly, in the current report, 17 goals, 70 targets and 115 indicators were used to measure the progress of a state or union territory. Similarly, for 2030, 17 goals and 169 related target scales have been kept for the states and union territories.

SDG India Index was first started in 2018 and now it has entered its third year. States and Union Territories have also been ranked on the basis of the achievement of these targets. It is a primary tool towards achieving these Sustainable Development Goals in the country. Through this, mutual competition between the states and union territories increases and the country moves on the path of development in the desire to come forward.
