Actress Kangana Ranaut has taken a new turn in the defamation complaint filed by lyricist and writer Javed Akhtar. Bollywood’s ‘Panga Queen’ has approached a court in Mumbai and has requested the court to record the statement of her sister Rangoli Chandel in this case.
According to news agency PTI, Kangana Ranaut has given this application to Metropolitan Magistrate RR Khan. The application has been filed by Kangana’s lawyer Advocate Rizwan Siddiqui on Friday. The court has posted the matter for order on August 11. Kangana had appeared in the Metropolitan Magistrate’s court last month. He had declared himself innocent in the whole case.
Earlier this month, Kangana appeared before the court and pleaded not guilty in the case. This was his third appearance in the court after Javed Akhtar filed a complaint against him in November 2020.
Before the proceedings began, her lawyer requested the court to ask everyone to leave as her client did not want a media trial, Kangana also recorded her verification statement in her cross-complaint filed. He was given an order for in-camera proceedings in April to record his statement in the counter complaint.
Javed Akhtar had filed a complaint in the court in November 2020, in which he alleged that Kangana had made derogatory statements against him during an interview aired on television, which allegedly damaged his reputation. In her complaint, she claimed that Kangana had dragged her name during the interview while referring to a ‘group’ present in Bollywood after the alleged suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
