Johnny Depp may not make Amber Heard pay $10.35 million, his lawyer hints

Pirates of the Caribbean’ fame Johnny Depp has been in the headlines for the past several days regarding his personal life. When ex-wife Amber Heard accused him of domestic violence, he filed a defamation case. After hearing for 6 weeks in the court, the jury ruled in favor of the Hollywood actor. Amber has to pay Rs 1.5 billion ($15 million) to Johnny as compensation. However, now Johnny’s lawyer has revealed that this case was never about money, it was about bringing back his credibility. In such a situation, it is believed that Amber can take a sigh of relief about the fact that she may not have to pay such a huge amount. However, the lawyer has also mentioned a ‘condition’ in the gestures.

Johnny Depp’s lawyer Benjamin Chew has given a big hint about this. He said that this defamation case was never about money. He has also admitted that if Amber Heard does not appeal further in this case, then Johnny may not take compensation from her.

‘The case was never about money’
Benjamin Chew said, ‘We cannot explicitly disclose any lawyer-client interactions, but as Mr. Depp testified and as we both clarified in our respective closings that It was never about money. It was about getting his reputation back and he has done that.

Johnny and Amber got married in the year 2015. Before this, both of them had also dated for years. However, after a year of marriage, the rift started in their relationship. Amber had accused Johnny of domestic violence and after much turmoil, the couple divorced in the year 2017. The legal battle between the two started when Amber mentioned domestic violence in an article in The Washington Post in 2018. After this, Johnny filed a defamation case against the ex-wife.

On June 1, the court had given the verdict
The trial of this defamation case began in April 2022 and the verdict was delivered on June 1. The jury found that Amber could not substantiate any allegations made against Johnny with evidence. Hence the verdict was pronounced in favor of Johnny. The eyes of the world were fixed on this high profile case. After the verdict in the case, where Johnny thanked everyone, Amber expressed dissatisfaction with this decision.
