Jahangirpuri Violence: Delhi Police has arrested Prem Sharma, a service chief of VHP, while also registering an FIR against Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal in connection with the violence in Jahangirpuri on Hanuman Jayanti. Crime Branch is now investigating this matter. So far 24 people have been arrested in connection with the violence. Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana, while talking to a TV channel today, had told that permission was not taken from the police for the procession taken out in Jahangirpuri on Hanuman Jayanti.
According to the information, Delhi Police has registered a case against Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal Delhi Province, Mukherjee Nagar District. It is being told that they did not have any permission to take out the procession in Jahangirpuri. Due to this, the police took action in this matter and arrested Prem Sharma, the district servant chief of Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
Confirming this arrest and FIR, DCP of North-West District, Usha Rangnani said on Monday that FIR has been registered against the organizers of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal Delhi province on April 17 for taking out procession without permission on the evening of April 16 in Jahangirpuri area. In this regard, the accused Vishwa Hindu Parishad district service chief Prem Sharma has been arrested by the police. Further investigation is on in this matter.
Significantly, violence broke out between two communities in Jahangirpuri after stone-pelting on the procession taken out on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti on Saturday. During this, empty bottles along with stones were also heavily used. In this violence, some vehicles were set ablaze along with fierce sabotage. A total of 9 people were injured, including 8 policemen, with a sub-inspector being shot in the violence. Now along with the local police, the crime branch has also been engaged to investigate this incident.
