Is Xiaomi preparing to shift its manufacturing plant from India to Pakistan?

Everything is not going well between the Chinese mobile companies and the Indian government for the last few months. There is a dispute between the government and Chinese mobile companies regarding the tax. Meanwhile, a news has come that Xiaomi is preparing to shift the manufacturing plant from India to Pakistan amid the ongoing tension with the Indian government.

This whole controversy started after a tweet named South Asia Index. South Asia Index wrote in its tweet, ‘Chinese mobile manufacturer Xiaomi may shift from India to Pakistan after the Indian government freezes Rs 5,551 crore in the account.’

Responding to this tweet, Xiaomi India completely dismissed the report. Xiaomi has said that this is completely a rumour, there is not even a trace of truth in it. In his tweet, Xiaomi said, ‘This tweet is completely false and baseless. Xiaomi started its business in India in 2014 and in less than a year we started our Make in India journey. 99% of our smartphones and 100% of our TVs are made in India. We will do everything possible to stop such rumours.

This week Xiaomi has approached the Karnataka High Court to freeze the bank account. On October 3, Xiaomi has filed another petition in the High Court. The company has challenged the September 29, 2022 order of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) Competent Authority, which upheld the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) attachment order dated April 29.
