Ireland upsets West Indies, Two-time champions now out of ICC T20 World Cup 2022

Ireland defeated two-time champion West Indies cricket team by 9 wickets in a Group B match of the T20 World Cup 2022 Round One. For Ireland, Paul Stirling has pushed West Indies out of the Super 12 playing a stormy innings. This is the first time in history that the Caribbean team has not made it to the Super 12.

Ireland’s opener Paul Stirling played a stormy innings 48 balls 60 runs with the help of 6 fours and two sixes. This is the first time that West Indies have not been able to make it to the Super-12 of the World Cup.

The West Indies team, captained by Nicholas Pooran, made a tremendous comeback after losing their first match and registered a spectacular victory in the second match. After losing the first match, Windies made their presence felt by defeating Zimbabwe by 31 runs in the second match. But Puran and Co could not register a victory in the do or die match and got out of the World Cup.

Batting first after winning the toss, West Indies scored 146 for five in 20 overs. In reply, Ireland’s team won the match by scoring 150 for one wicket in 17.3 overs. For Ireland, explosive batsman Paul Stirling scored an unbeaten 66 off 48 balls. Lorcan Tucker remained unbeaten on 45 off 35 balls. Captain Andrew Balbirnie scored 37 runs off 23 balls. The real hero of Ireland’s victory was spinner Gareth Denly. He took three wickets for 16 runs in four overs. He had dismissed Evin Lewis, Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell.

Ireland is ranked 12th in the ICC rankings. At the same time, the West Indies team is at the seventh position. West Indies have become the first team to be eliminated in the ranking top-10 countries. Ireland have four points from three matches. At the same time, West Indies had only two points in three matches. Ireland’s team will go to which group in the Super-12, it will be decided after the results of the match between Scotland and Zimbabwe.
