KKR v PBKS: Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Punjab Kings on Friday night with Andre Russell’s stellar fifty after a slaying performance under pressure. This is KKR’s second win in three matches in IPL 2022, with this KKR have reached top of the points table on the back of a better net run-rate. This is Punjab’s first defeat of the season. Losing the toss, Punjab Kings were able to add only 137 runs on the scoreboard, in response, the brave KKR won the match by six wickets in the first 33 balls at the Wankhede Stadium.
After the big win, a happy team owner SRK tweeted to congratulate the two of them as well as the entire team. Russell devastated the Punjabi camp with his 31-ball 70 not out. His fifty came in 26 balls. The Caribbean all-rounder scored runs at a staggering strike rate of 225. With this, he also got the Orange Cap. Interestingly, the Purple Cap is also with Umesh Yadav of KKR.
Umesh took four wickets
Umesh Yadav (4/24) and Tim Southee (2/36) bowled lethally for Kolkata. Punjab team could only make 137 in 18.2 overs. Bhanuka Rajapakse (31) and Kagiso Rabana (25) scored the highest runs for the team. Shivam Mavi and Sunil Narine took a wicket each. Both Kolkata openers i.e. Ajinkya Rahane (12) and Venkatesh Iyer (3) got out early.
Rahul Chahar’s efforts goes in vain
Skipper Shreyas Iyer, who came at number three (26 off 15 balls), was looking good today but was caught in the trap of leg-spinner Rahul Chahar. In the same over, Chahar sent Nitish Rana back to pavilion without opening the account and got his team back in the match. But after this, Sam Billings and Andre Russell made a great partnership to give victory to their team. Rahul Chahar bowled well for Punjab.
Punjab’s batting was completely flop
Earlier, sent to bat after losing the toss, Punjab Kings suffered a setback in the very first over in the form of opener captain Mayank Agarwal when Umesh made him lbw for 1 run. After this Bhanuka Rajapaksa batted vigorously and hit many big shots. But he too got out in the fourth over. Liam Livingstone, Shikhar Dhawan, Raj Bawa, Shahrukh Khan, Harpreet Brar, none could stay at the crease. In the last, Rabada scored 25 runs in 16 balls with the help of four fours and a six.
