CSK vs RCB: Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Chennai Super Kings by 13 runs in the 49th match of IPL-2022. With this win, while Bangalore has entered the top-4 in the points table, on the other hand, Chennai’s path to reach the playoffs has become difficult now.
Earlier, captain Faf du Plessis (38) and Virat Kohli (30) shared a 62-run partnership for the first wicket, followed by Mahipal Lomror’s 27-ball 42-run stand by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Chennai Super Kings. Made a challenging score of 173 runs for eight wickets. Lomror hit three fours and two sixes in his innings. Dinesh Karthik scored an unbeaten 26 off 17 balls with the help of one four and two sixes.
Chennai spinners stopped RCB from making a big score by bowling economical in this match. Mahesh Teekshana took three for 27 in four overs, Moeen Ali took two wickets for 28 runs in four overs. Ravindra Jadeja conceded 20 runs in four overs, however, he did not get any success. Fast bowler Dwayne Pretorius took one wicket for 42 runs in three overs for Chennai Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and invited RCB to bat.
After batting carefully in the first three overs, Kohli hit a six against Simarjit Singh in the fourth over, while the same du Plessis hit two fours and a six against Mukesh Chaudhary in the fifth over as the team completed 50 runs. Bengaluru’s team scored 57 runs without loss in the power play, which is their best performance this season. Moeen Ali walked du Plessis in the eighth over and Virat Kohli in the 10th over. Du Plessis, who hit four fours and a six in his 22-ball innings, was caught by Jadeja, while Virat was bowled in 33 balls by hitting three fours and a six.
Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell (3 runs) was run out by Robin Uthappa with a brilliant throw. After this Rajat Patidar (21 runs) Moeen and Mahipal Lomror hit a six against Mahish Teekshana to maintain the run-rate. Dhoni, playing his 200th match for Chennai, handed the ball to Pretorius in the 16th over and this bowler got Patidar caught by Chaudhary on the very first ball. In his next over, Jadeja dropped a difficult catch of Lomror.
Jadeja also got injured after applying a drive for the catch but he remained on the field after physio treatment. Lomror hit a six off the very next ball itself. But in the 19th over, after the dismissal of Lomror and Wanindu Hasaranga (nil) off successive deliveries from Teekshana, Shahbaz Ahmed (one run) was bowled on the last ball of the over. Karthik hit two sixes against Pretorius in the last over to take the team’s score past 170.
