The opposition Congress and cricket fans have reacted angrily after the newly constructed cricket stadium in Ahmedabad was named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Congress leader has termed the insult of India’s first Home Minister for removing the name of Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel and naming it Narendra Modi Stadium. Congress leader Amit Chavda said that this insult by Sardar Patel will not be tolerated by Gujaratis.

Significantly, President Ramnath Kovind inaugurated the world’s largest stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. With the inauguration, the Motera Stadium has been renamed after ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi’. This stadium can accommodate one lakh 32 thousand visitors. The cricket stadium is named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The President inaugurated the stadium in the presence of several distinguished guests including Home Minister Amit Shah and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju.
On renaming the cricket stadium as ‘Narendra Modi Stadium’, Congress leader Amit Chavda wrote in his tweet, “At the time of Congress, the name of Ahmedabad Cricket Stadium was added to the name of Sardar Saheb, but now its name has been changed to Narendra Modi which won’t be tolerated by Gujarat. This is not an insult to Sardar Saheb but an insult to Gujarat, BJP’s arrogance of power is trying to erase history. ”
Hardik Patel wrote in his tweet, “Bharat Ratna, Loh Purush Sardar Patel banned RSS and that’s why RSS disciples are making every effort to erase Sardar Patel’s name. Spread over 63 acres of the campus, this stadium has a spectating capacity of one lakh 32 thousand and Rs 800 crore has been spent on it. Earlier the Melbourne Cricket Ground was the largest stadium with an audience capacity of 90000. “It is equivalent to 32 Olympic-sized football stadiums,” said the information released by the Press Information Bureau.
