Indian Medical Association VP Lodges Complaint Against Ramdev for Mocking COVID Patients and Doctors

Expressing strong objection to Baba Ramdev’s comments mocking Corona patients and doctors, Dr. Navjot Singh Dahiya, vice-president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), lodged a case with the Jalandhar police on Saturday and demanded strict action against him.

Recently a video went viral on social media, in which Baba Ramdev was saying that ‘the universe is the storehouse of oxygen all around, but the patients can not breathe and they are spreading negativity that there is a lack of oxygen’.

Regarding this, Dahiya has filed a case and said that such comments are derogatory and defamatory for doctors.

It is known that Dr. Navjot Singh Dahiya came into the limelight when he called PM a ‘super spreader’ when Prime Minister Narendra Modi rallied during the epidemic.

The IMA vice-president has demanded that a criminal case should be filed against Ramdev for spreading propaganda regarding Covid-19. Making such derogatory and defamatory remarks is a violation of instructions issued for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.

Ramdev had said that anyone whose oxygen level is falling should do ‘Anulom Vilom Pramayam’ and ‘Kapalbhati Pranayam’. Dahiya has also demanded action against Acharya Balakrishna, CEO of Patanjali Yogpeeth in this context.

Dr. Dahiya, who is an orthopedic expert, said that Ramdev has violated the Disaster Management Act 2005 and Pandemic Diseases Act 1897 by giving ‘wrong’ advice in relation to Corona and should be punished under it.

The IMA vice-president said that by making such comments, Ramdev is plotting to discredit the doctor and the medical community, so that more people come to his Patanjali Yogpeeth.

He told, “The country’s health system has completely collapsed and there is a lot of burden on doctors. We are praying for doctors and MBBS students, who are treating Covid-19 patients but Ramdev is mocking instead of supporting them. More than 900 doctors have died during the pandemic. ‘

Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Gurmeet Singh has said that he has received a complaint in this regard on Saturday and has started investigating, after which an FIR will be filed.

Dahiya has claimed that if the police do not file an FIR, he will file a court case.

It is known that Baba Ramdev and his Patanjali Yogpeeth have been in a lot of controversy during the entire corona Pandemic, when they campaigned and claimed that their company had discovered the drug for treatment of Covid-19. However, till date there is no scientific evidence of these claims
