Indian Medical Association slams Dr. Harsh Vardhan for promoting Patanjali’s Coronil

The Indian Medical Association has expressed its displeasure against Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan for supporting Patanjali Ayurved’s coronil medicine. Earlier, the World Health Organization has also rejected the approval to use coronil for the treatment of Covid.

In a statement, IMA said: “Indian Medical Association is shocked to note the blatant lie of WHO certification for a secret medicine launched by Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved in the presence of Hon’ble Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.”

Indian Medical Association’s objection to coronil
Swami Ramdev relaunched Coronil for the treatment of Covid. Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan was also present on the occasion. On which the IMA has expressed strong resentment.

The Indian Medical Association states that according to the Code of Conduct of the IMA, no doctor can promote any medicine. But surprisingly, the Health Minister who is a doctor himself and has been found promoting the medicine. ” said IMA.

IMA questions health minister

The IMA said that the World Health Organization has rejected Coronil for the treatment of Covid. In such a situation, launching of the medicine in the presence of the health minister of the country, it gives a wrong message.

The Indian Medical Association asked Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan how he tried to promote coronil without any scientific basis.

The IMA said “If the coronil was effective for the prevention of corona, then why is the Indian government spending 35 thousand crores on corona vaccination?”

The IMA has said that it will write a letter to the NMC seeking clarification from Dr. Harsh Vardhan for ignoring the Code of Conduct of the Medical Council of India.

Questions raised on Swami Ramdev’s claim
On the occasion of the launch of coronil, Swami Ramdev claimed that coronil has received approval from the World Health Organization for treatment of Covid.

However, on Friday, the WHO denied that it did not review or certify any such traditional medicine.
After the WHO’s tweet, Balakrishna, MD of Pantjali Ayurveda, said that he has received approval from the DGCI, not from the World Health Organization, on coronil.

There was a dispute on coronil earlier also
Last year, amidst the growing infection of the corona virus, Patanjali Ayurveda claimed that it is an effective drug in the prevention of corona, with the help of Coronil medicine. But as the controversy grew, the Ministry of AYUSH recognized it as an medicine for immunity boosters.

On 19 February, Pantjali Ayurveda launched coronil, citing evidence based medicine for the treatment of corona. Union Health Ministers Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Nitin Gadkari were also present on the occasion. The Indian Medical Association has expressed its displeasure over the presence of Dr. Harsh Vardhan in this program.
