Ind vs End: Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed for 104 in the first innings of the Edgbaston Test against England. He became the fourth Indian to score a Test century at Edgbaston. James Anderson bowled him on a personal score of 104 runs. Ravindra Jadeja hit 13 fours during his 194-ball innings. This century of Ravindra Jadeja has come at a time when Team India needed it very much. Along with this, Ravindra Jadeja also made many records in his name.
Ravindra Jadeja also equaled Harbhajan Singh with Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Kapil Dev. Jadeja and Rishabh Pant also recalled the 2007 innings of Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh. Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant’s centuries helped the Indian team to score 416 runs in 84.5 overs in the first innings.
This is the third time in Test cricket, when the Indian team lost 5 wickets within 100 runs, yet managed to score more than 400 runs. However, Team India has done such a feat abroad for the first time.
Earlier in 2013, India lost 5 wickets for 83 runs against West Indies in Kolkata. Despite this, Team India was successful in scoring 453 runs. In 1983, India lost 5 for 92 against West Indies in Chennai. He then scored 451 runs.
This is Ravindra Jadeja’s third century in Test cricket. He has scored 2 centuries this year (in 2022). He is the fourth Indian to score two Test centuries in a calendar year, batting at number 7 or above.
Before him, Kapil Dev (1986), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (2009), Harbhajan Singh (2010) have achieved this. Ravindra Jadeja scored an unbeaten 175 in a Test match against Sri Lanka in Mohali in March 2022.
In Test cricket, two left-handed batsmen scored centuries for India in the same innings for the third time. Earlier, Sadagopan Ramesh and Sourav Ganguly had scored 110 and 125 respectively in an innings against New Zealand in Ahmedabad in 1999.
Sourav Ganguly did this feat once more in 2007 with Yuvraj Singh. Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh then scored 239 and 169 runs respectively in an innings in a Test match against Pakistan in Bengaluru.
