German Open 2022: Young sensation Lakshya Sen stormed into the final of Yonex Gainward German Open 2022 after upsetting the reigning World Champion Viktor Axelsen.
World No. 12 Sen defeated World No.1 Axelsen 21-13, 12-21, 22-20 in a contest that lasted for an hour and 10 mins. The 20-year-old Indian was trailing 9-16 in the decider but showed tremendous composure to stun Axelsen, who is also a former World Champion. This is Sen’s first victory against Axelsen in the fifth meeting of the duo.

Lakshya Sen made a confident start to the match and pocketed the first game in just 19 minutes, winning it 21-13. Soon, World No. 1 and reigning Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen notched things up in the second set and stole the lead to win the second set, 21-12. However, the fireworks started to fly from the decider as both Sen and Axelsen really pushed each other before Lakshya made a stunning comeback in the fag end of the last game to win against Axelsen, 21-13, 12-21, 22-20.
Sen will face Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand in the final on Sunday. 20-year-old Vitidsarn is a former three-times Junior World Champion.
