Mumbai Police has registered a case against Google CEO Sundar Pichai following a complaint by Indian filmmaker and director Sunil Darshan. Mumbai Police has registered an FIR against Pichai under sections related to copyright infringement following a court order. On the other hand, the shocking thing is that on the 73rd Republic Day, the Government of India has also honored Pichai with the Padma Bhushan Award.
Actually, Bollywood filmmaker and director Sunil Darshan had filed a complaint in a Mumbai court that his film has been uploaded on YouTube. On the complaint of Sunil Darshan, the court had ordered the Mumbai Police to register a case and investigate. Acting on the same order of the court, Mumbai Police has registered a case against 6 people including Sundar Pichai. Along with this, Mumbai Police has also started investigation in this matter.
The petitioner filmmaker alleges that he has not given the copyright of his film ‘Ek Hasina Thi Ek Deewana Tha’ to anyone. Despite this, the songs and videos of the film were uploaded on Google and YouTube by many individuals. YouTube and Google also gave permission to upload the songs and videos of the film. Because of this they earned crores of rupees while I have lost crores of rupees in this process.
Now on the basis of the complaint, besides Sundar Pichai, a case has been registered against other Google officials including Gautam Anand (MD of YouTube) under sections 51, 63 and 69 of copyright.
At the same time, the first Indian CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai, has been awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India on the occasion of India’s 73rd Republic Day today. Sundar Pichai is one of the 17 personalities who have been given this honour. This award has been given to Sundar Pichai keeping in mind his remarkable contribution in the category of trade and industry.
