Eggs thrown at Smriti Irani’s convoy: Union Minister Smriti Irani had arrived in Pune at a book written on Home Minister Amit Shah. But Congress and NCP workers protested against inflation. When Smriti Irani was returning after the book release, women NCP workers threw eggs at her convoy and Youth Congress workers showed black flags to the Union minister.
NCP and Congress workers reached Smriti Irani’s hotel and protested against inflation. The women activists had reached inside the hotel with gas cylinders and the police overpowered them after a lot of effort. After this BJP workers also reached there and then BJP workers also started raising slogans in support of BJP and Smriti Irani.
At the same time, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condemned the attack on Smriti Irani’s convoy and targeted the state government. He said, “Every day, they are taking law into their own hands and doing illegal acts. If the workers of the ruling party in Maharashtra started doing such things, then it is clear that there is no law and order in Maharashtra. The attack on Smriti Irani is cowardly. We can also give a tit-for-tat response. But we believe in democracy. We are giving an opportunity to the police. But if the police doesn’t take appropriate action, we too will have to give a tit-for-tat response. I am warning the police.”
In fact, when BJP was in opposition, BJP used to protest against inflation during the UPA government and Smriti Irani was seen in most of the protests. Now the women workers of NCP and Congress had come to protest in front of Smriti Irani on the rising inflation under Modi government.
On the other hand, NCP workers have accused BJP workers of beating them up. NCP workers allege that BJP workers have assaulted a woman NCP worker.
In this incident, the police has detained NCP’s woman activist Visakha Gaikwad. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had a phone-to-phone conversation with the woman, who was allegedly assaulted by BJP workers.
