India’s Murali Sreeshankar did wonders in the men’s long jump. He won silver medal in track and field. This is India’s 19th medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Sreeshankar won the silver medal in the men’s long jump final with a best jump of 8.08 meters.
India’s long jumper Murali Sreeshankar has won India’s second medal in track and field. With this, Sreeshankar has become the first male athlete from India to win a medal for India in the long jump event in the history of the Commonwealth Games.
Before Murali Sreeshar, former athletes Anju Bobby George and Prajusha Malaikhal have won medals among women. Anju Bobby won bronze in long jump in 2002 Commonwealth Games and Prajusha won silver in 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Significantly, this is India’s second medal in track and field at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Earlier, Tejaswin Shankar won the bronze medal for India in the high jump.
Anees Yahia missed out on medal in the final
Another Indian athlete Mohammad Anees Yahia missed out on winning a medal in the final. He finished at number five after 6 attempts with a best attempt of 7.97. Yahia made a best attempt of 7.72 meters in the first three attempts. However, his first attempt was a foul. In the second attempt, he jumped 7.65 meters. After this, in the third, he jumped 7.72 meters. Yahia jumped 7.74 meters in the fourth attempt, 7.58 meters in the fifth and 7.97 meters in the sixth attempt.
