Boycott Chennai Super Kings: In the mega auction of IPL 2022, all the 10 teams rained money on the players. A total of 204 players got buyers in the two-day mega auction. In this episode, Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana was also bought in the auction. Theekshana was bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for Rs 70 lakh.
Boycott Chennai Super Kings trends on Twitter
The base price of 21-year-old Maheesh Theekshana was Rs 50 lakh. Kolkata Knight Riders had also shown interest to buy him, but Chennai got the final bid. Chennai definitely got this Sri Lankan spinner in their team, but with this the difficulties of the franchise have also increased.
Actually, Theekshana comes from Sinhalese background. CSK’s Tamil fans are upset over the inclusion of a Sinhalese player. They believe that a cricketer with a Sinhalese background should not have a place in the IPL team owned by Tamils.
The fans are driving the #Boycott_ChennaiSuperkings trend on Twitter. It is worth noting that Sri Lanka’s Sinhalese soldiers were accused of war crimes against Tamils during military action against LTTE in 2009.
A fan wrote, “From the Buddhist country that has an unofficial policy of torturing and killing TN fishermen, raping and torturing Sri Lankan Tamil protesters and taking away the lands of SL Tamils till date.”
Another fan wrote, “Pakistanis are banned from IPL cause they are (north)”India’s enemies”. but Tamil’s enemies the SL state uses these sports to whitewash its crimes in international stage ,,and idiots don’t care! Now taking in a player even inside CSK! While no Tamils!”
