Chris Hemsworth’s Tweet For CWG Gold Medalist: Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the country’s first gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The Olympic silver medalist set a Commonwealth Games record by lifting 201 kg (88 in snatch and 113 kg in clean and jerk). The 27-year-old had managed to win a silver in Glasgow and a gold in the Gold Coast. Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth has become her fan after Chanu won the gold.

Hemsworth, popularly known as ‘Thor’, has praised Chanu. Hemsworth has used a hammer in the Marvel Universe films. This hammer is very famous among his fans. On social media, Chanu shared pictures after winning the gold. Sharing her pictures, a user wrote, “Time for Thor to give up his hammer.” He also tagged Hemsworth.

Hemsworth won the hearts of Indian fans by replying to this. He wrote, “She is worthy! Congrats, Saikhom, you legend.”

Mirabai had given the country an Olympic medal in weightlifting last year after 21 years. In the Tokyo Olympics, Meera lifted a total of 202 kg in the 49 kg weight category and won a silver medal. Karnam Malleswari won a bronze medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics before Chanu. Mirabai has been winning medals in three consecutive Commonwealth Games. Meera won a silver medal at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and a gold medal at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Mirabai has never looked back since missing out on a medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and continues to carry flags of success. In the 2016 Rio Olympics, Mirabai was unable to lift the weight properly in any of her attempts. Her every attempt was disqualified. In 2016, when Meera could not lift weights, her name was written – ‘Did not finish’.
