BWF Swiss Open 2022: Chinese badminton team has decided to pull out of the Swiss Open Super 300 tournament starting Tuesday due to positive cases of Covid-19 and injuries to the players.
The sport’s governing body World Badminton Federation (BWF) said that several players have pulled out of the tournament after investigations confirmed that they were infected with the deadly virus.
The BWF said, “Many players from several member associations were found to be infected with the coronavirus during pre-arrival and post-arrival tests and have been removed from its draw.”
“China Badminton Association reported injuries to some players of its team along with some positive cases,” it said.
“The Chinese team withdrew the names of all its players from the Yonex Swiss Open 2022, citing concerns for the well being and safety of all participants in the tournament,” the BWF said.
Top Indian players including PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and K Srikanth are participating in the tournament. World Championships bronze medalist Lakshya Sen, however, decided to pull out. He was feeling tired after playing the finals of two consecutive tournaments, the German Open and the All England Championship.
