BJP took multi-crore donations from DHFL which committed ₹34,615 crore Scam

The Congress on Saturday accused the BJP of accepting donations of crores of rupees from fraud-affected DHFL promoters and related companies and asked several questions. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate alleged that large-scale irregularities had come to the fore in the investigation of DHFL’s accounts. In March 2021, the CBI made DHFL an accused in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) case, but this scam came to the fore in the investigation of Yes Bank, not in the audit of PM Awas Yojana.

She said that BJP was continuously taking donations from DHFL. BJP took donations of Rs 28 crore from companies associated with DHFL and its promoters. Is it a matter of taking with one hand and giving with the other? Why did BJP accept donations of Rs 28 crore? Was it a bribe? One company DHFL defrauded thousands of crores in PM Awas Yojana, but why it was not disclosed in the audit of PM Awas Yojana? The Congress said that DHFL defrauded 17 banks to the tune of more than ₹34,615 crore, but it is a matter of concern that this large-scale fraud has direct links and roots with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

Congress’s allegation – fraud happened under PM’s nose

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said that India’s biggest banking fraud happened under the nose of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. What is the government doing to control bank frauds and bring the guilty to justice? What is the update about recovery of money and cases against people like Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi, Vijay Mallya, all of them have fled the country under the watch of Modi government. Why didn’t the CBI register an FIR against the Anil Ambani-controlled Reliance Communications against SBI’s March 2021 fraud complaint?

Congress spokesperson also told the timeline of the fraud-

  • 2010-2018: Union Bank of India, the lead bank of the consortium, has alleged that DHFL took loans of Rs 42,871 crore from a consortium of 17 banks between 2010 and 2018, and defaulted from 2019.
  • 2015-2019: Special Review Audit for the period April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2019 confirms that DHFL has committed large scale scams and fraudulent use of public money to private property for Kapil and Dinesh Wadhawan done to make.
  • March 2021: CBI registers case against Kapil and Dinesh Wadhawan for scam in Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) where 2.60 lakh fake home loan accounts worth Rs 14,046 crore were created in a fake ‘Bandra branch’.

Supriya Shrinate said that from the launch of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in 2015 till December 2018, DHFL has passed 88,651 home loan accounts under the scheme and also availed Rs 1,887 crore as interest subsidy from the Government of India. The shocking thing is that this scam in PMAY came to the fore during the investigation of Yes Bank scam in 2020 and not in the 3-year audit of PMAY.

BJP took donations from DHFL involved in scam

Supriya said that DHFL has been accused of committing India’s biggest banking fraud, but the BJP has left no stone unturned in taking donations of Rs. 10 crore from RKW Developers Ltd (a company owned by the owners of DHFL), Rs 10 crore from Wadhawan Global Capital Ltd and Rs 7.5 crore from Darshan Developers controlled by Wadhawan family.

Was this amount a huge bribe?

He asked whether this amount was a huge bribe, to allow these suspects to commit fraud? How DHFL scam was not detected in PMAY audit and why it was exposed only in Yes Bank investigation? The FIR states that DHFL created a fake bank branch on paper. This raises important questions on the role of institutions like RBI, SEBI, NHB (National Housing Board etc.). Will the institutions in New India remain ignorant like this?
