Voices have started rising in favor of the agitating farmers from within the BJP itself. These voices are being raised in public instead of on the party platform. Varun Gandhi, BJP MP from UP, has tweeted and urged the Modi government to listen to the farmers. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Varun Gandhi, while sharing the video of the Mahapanchayat, said that we have to understand the pain of the farmers.
Varun Gandhi tweeted “Lakhs of farmers have gathered in protest today, in Muzaffarnagar. They are our own flesh and blood. We need to start re-engaging with them in a respectful manner: understand their pain, their point of view and work with them in reaching common ground.”
Varun Gandhi is the first BJP MP, who has given his candid opinion on the farmers’ movement. Earlier, Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik had given a statement in favor of farmers.
Satya Pal Malik had said that he understands the problems of the farmers. He himself is a farmer and it is sad to see that 600 farmers have died till now, but the government did not even console him. Satya Pal Malik had also said that he would not regret losing the post of governor. He had said that the law should not be forced on the farmers. If farmers are telling this against themselves, then the government should listen to them.
Regarding Varun Gandhi’s statement, Jayant Chaudhary tweeted, “What Varun Bhai said is welcome but also look at what BJP MLAs from Khurja (Uttar Pradesh) are saying. Serious investigation is required. At least Vijendra must get his eyes tested. Or else he should go to any of his assembly and repeat it among the people.”
