Bihar: Explosion in illegal firecracker factory, five dies including 2 children, four injured

Explosion in illegal firecracker factory: A major accident took place in Bihar’s Saran district on Sunday. At least five people, including two children and a woman, were killed and four others were injured in a massive explosion at an illegal firecracker unit here. Saran Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar told reporters that the blast was so powerful that the three-storey building in Khodaibagh market where the illegal firecracker factory was running collapsed.

He said the exact cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained but it is feared that the LPG cylinder kept inside the house also exploded. The owner of the illegal factory, identified as 22-year-old Shabbir Hussain, died on the spot. The other dead include 35-year-old employee, 32-year-old Shabana Khatoon and five-year-old Shazad. He said the identity of the one- and four-year-old who died in the incident could not be ascertained.

The condition of a woman, among the four others injured in the incident, is critical and has been shifted to Patna for better treatment, the official said. He said that the operation is on to rescue the people trapped under the debris, if any. Forensic experts from Patna are assisting the local police in the investigation.
