Bangladesh has overtaken India in per capita income. The per capita income of Bangladesh has now exceeded the per capita income of India. Bangladesh has declared its per capita income of $ 2227 during the financial year 2020-21. This is more than the per capita income of $ 2064 announced by Bangladesh in 2019-20.
Whereas according to the latest figures, India’s per capita income is $ 1947.41. The shock of economic activity in India due to Corona infection has caused a lot of damage to the economy of the country. The slowing down of the economy due to lockdown and restrictions is being attributed to reduction in per capita income.
Bangladesh minister claims, Bangladesh ahead of India in per capita income
Bangladesh’s Planning Minister MA Mannan said in a virtual cabinet meeting that Bangladesh’s per capita income in FY 2020-21 has increased to $ 2227, although the per capita income in 2019-20 was $ 2064. In this way, per capita income in Bangladesh has increased by 9 percent in one year. This news has received a lot of coverage in Bangladesh newspapers.
However, an economist working in a foreign financial company said that this is a temporary phenomena. Bangladesh is a labor intensive export economy. Therefore, it is meaningless to leave India behind. As soon as the corona infection is under control in India, there will be a boom in the economy. However, when the IMF’s World Economic Outlook data came in October last year, it was also estimated that Bangladesh’s per capita GDP would be higher than India. At that time former economic advisor Arvind Subramaniam had said that the figures of India and Bangladesh cannot be compared.
