Information technology giant Wipro’s founder Azim Premji has been named among India’s top leading philanthropists. Azim Premji runs many philanthropic schemes in the country through his many institutions, but it is discussed more when it comes to donating in a financial year because he appears at the top of this list. Along with the figures of this time, he has retained his top position among the Indians doing charitable work. According to a list, Azim Premji donated a total of Rs 9,713 crore in the financial year 2020-21 i.e. on an average he donated Rs 27 crore every day.
According to the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2021, Premji increased his donation by almost a quarter during the year affected by the pandemic. He was followed by Shiv Nadar of HCL Technology, who donated Rs 1,263 crore for charitable works.
Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s richest person and head of Reliance Industries, stood third in the list with a contribution of Rs 577 crore and Kumar Mangalam Birla secured the fourth position with Rs 377 crore. Gautam Adani, the country’s second richest person and the head of Adani Group, is at the eighth position in the list of donors with a donation of 130 crores for disaster relief.
Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani’s ranking also improved and with a donation of Rs 183 crore, he secured the fifth position in the list. The top ten donors include Hinduja family, Bajaj family, Anil Agarwal and Burman family.
