Akshay Kumar’s ‘Selfiee’ beats Kangana Ranaut’s Dhaakad’s opening day collection, earns Rs 2.25 cr

Akshay Kumar’s latest film ‘Selfiee’ has hit theaters today. Known as Bollywood’s ‘Khiladi’, Akshay had a string of unsuccessful films released last year, failing to impress at the box office. ‘Selfie’, released in 2023, marks Akshay’s first film of the year and he has high hopes for its success. However, the opening day box office results suggest a disappointing start.

Reports indicate that the box office performance of ‘Selfiee’, starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi, has been dismal. According to Bollywood Hungama the film has earned only 2.25 crores on its opening day resulting in a flop at the box office. ‘Selfiee’ was produced with a budget of Rs 150 crore. It remains to be seen how much ‘Selfiee’ will earn in the coming days.

This marks the fifth consecutive flop for Akshay Kumar, and the lowest opening for any of his films in the past 13 years. The 2010 film ‘Action Replay’ previously held this record with an opening day business of Rs 2.75 crore.

This remake of Malayalam film ‘Driving License’ is on the verge of becoming the worst opening film of Akshay’s career. In theaters on Friday, only 6 out of 100 seats were seen filled in the morning shows, while only 9 out of 100 seats were seen in the afternoon shows. ‘Selfiee’ is like a wake-up call for Akshay who has given four consecutive flops. It’s time for him to wake up to the alarm and career wise he needs to be very careful about his films going forward.

The story of ‘Selfiee’ revolves around a fight between a superstar and his biggest fan. Emraan Hashmi portrays an officer in the transport department who is an avid admirer of Akshay Kumar. However, a twist in the plot causes him to develop resentment towards his beloved star after Akshay refuses to take a selfie with him.

The film ‘Selfie’ stars Akshay Kumar in a prominent role, along with Emraan Hashmi and Nushrat Bharucha. The director of the film is Raj Mehta, and it is produced by Karan Johar. ‘Selfie’ is a Hindi adaptation of the Malayalam hit ‘Driving License’. However, the audience rejected the remake despite the success of the original film.
