A section of people have got indignant after hearing the name of this film and are demanding even to stop its shooting. There has been a lot of trolling and buzz around the film since it has been announced.

Senior journalist Ajit Anjum tweeted, “Film on Phoolan Devi’s murderer, convicted criminal Sher Singh Rana? A murderer is being glorified.”

Social activist Dilip Mandal wrote on Twitter, “Sher Singh Rana is convicted of the murder of world’s best rebel MP Phoolan Devi. He has been awarded life imprisonment. Phoolan Devi had laid down her arms. She was unarmed. There is no bravery in her murder. It’s called cowardice… This film should not be made.”

Journalist Alishan Jafri tweeted, “Rana would be remembered as a fanatic casteist and a murderer who assassinated a brave Dalit woman. No amount of whitewashing will undo this TRUTH. Is there any strong evidence that he brought back the ashes of Prithviraj Chauhan from Afghanistan as the film claims?”

Phoolan Devi was subjected to caste oppression. He had to face gang rape. After which Phoolan had to take up arms. Later she went outside the legal purview and killed more than one and a half dozen people of the same caste in Behmai. Those who died were innocent in the sense that they were not directly responsible for the incident. But regarding the then social system of Bundelkhand, it cannot be said that caste oppression should never have happened.

After the gangrape, Phoolan felt that only one caste group was her enemy and she did what the rebels of Chambal do to take revenge. However, due to the efforts of Arjun Singh, he had to surrender. Stayed in jail and came out much later and started political innings with SP and became MP from Mirzapur twice.
