Rupee continues to plunge against dollar. The value of Indian rupee has dropped to an all-time low of 79 against the U.S. As a result of the rupee plunging to a record low, Twitter was flooded with memes and one-liners mocking the situation and the policies responsible for the slump.
At the same time, old tweets of many Bollywood celebrities are going viral on Twitter made during the UPA (Congress and allies) government in the year 2012-2013 about rupee plunging. These celebs used to mock then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA led Congress government about the falling value of the rupee.
Many old tweets from Amitabh Bachchan to Juhi Chawla are going viral on Twitter. Users are taking digs at celebs like Anupam Kher, Amitabh Bachchan and Vivek Agnihotri for their silence when rupee is record all-time low and about to touch Rs 80 mark.
Actress Juhi Chawla had tweeted on August 21 in 2013 that, “Thank God. The name of Apun’s underwear is ‘Dollar’. Had the rupee been there, it would have kept falling again and again. However, he has now deleted this tweet.
Juhi Chawla had also made another tweet on the same issue. Wishing Rakshabandhan, she had tweeted, “The only way the Rupee can save itself is by tying a rakhi to the Dollar and saying “meri raksha karna” Happy Rakshabandhan!”
At the same time, legend actor Amitabh Bachchan had made a tweet on 1 September 2013 and took a dig at the falling value of rupee. He had written, “New word added to English dictionary : RUPEED ( ru – pee – d ) , Verb MEANING : move downward, (cont).”

Pro BJP filmmaker Ashok Pandit had also targeted the then Prime Minister through his tweets about the falling value of the rupee in the year 2013. He tweeted, “Dollar crosses rs.60.Thank u Mr.PM for leading the country towards the disaster.”
Actor Anupam Kher tweeted on August 28, 2013 about the falling rupee and wrote, “Everything is falling. The value of rupees and the value of man. We belong to the country in which Ganga cries.”
At the same time, in June 2012, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, who became popular after his film ‘The Kashmir Files’ made a tweet regarding the falling price of the rupee. He had written, “May ur happiness increase like Petrol Price, May ur sorrow fall like Indian Rupee n May ur joy fill your heart like corruption in India.”
